July 23rd, 2019 marks 15 years since Ooga Booga first opened its doors in Chinatown back in 2004. We can't believe it's lasted this long. Throughout the years, the heart and soul of Ooga Booga always remained in this little 300 square foot box perched atop Quon Pavillion in Central Plaza. This hand-built shop, with all its messiness and imperfection, has weathered years of rain leaks and welcomed curious visitors, makeshift events, and an endless parade of books and objects.

It's with so much gratitude and a heavy heart that we will close Ooga Booga's Chinatown storefront at the end of Summer 2019.

Ooga Booga has always been a labor of love rather than a profitable venture, and we want to thank everyone who made this space possible—all the coworkers, volunteers, contributors, artists, small businesses, customers, readers and neighbors who this truly couldn't have existed without, and for whom this project was always intended. It's been such an honor to work with you all.

Ooga Booga will still exist in other forms: we are at the Hammer Museum through Spring 2020, at the Chinese Culture Center SF through October 27th 2019, and will keep our webshop up and running, with additional future projects to be announced.

Please join us in celebrating our 15 years—and help lighten our load as we embark on the next chapter. We have a bunch of events throughout July to be announced in the coming weeks, and lots of deeply discounted merchandise. All events are free, and everyone is welcome. Come visit us!
