Ooga Booga is looking to fill a Store Manager position focused on retail sales, customer service, and inventory management, as well as liaising with and providing support to our Chinatown shop and the connected art space 356 Mission.
This is an opportunity to work in an energetic environment that is culturally active and operating on a unique business model. You will interact with a diverse group of independent artists, musicians and designers, while gaining some insight on alternative ways of working in retail and the arts. We are looking for an outgoing, friendly, and highly organized leader who is very good at multi-tasking in a fast-paced setting, has knowledge and interest in contemporary arts and culture, and excellent communication skills.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
• Greeting and interacting with customers, making them feel welcome and helping with questions and sales
• Having thorough knowledge of the store’s merchandise and where everything is kept and displayed
• Processing sales using POS system and our online-payment system
• Training and supervising store staff and interns, assigning daily tasks, overseeing staff schedules
• Overseeing the shop on a day-to-day basis, including special events
• Receiving packages, unpacking, recording, preparing, and transferring stock
• Keeping track of inventory and supplies, monitoring restocking needs
• Ensuring everything is clean, well-organized, and displayed properly in store, and all storage and back stock areas
• Making sure all transactions, pricing, inventory counts, and information provided are accurate and up to date
• Preparing merchandise and artwork for shipment or storage
• Frequent communication with coworkers at Chinatown store and 356 Mission, assisting with daily tasks, administrative duties, compiling daily reports, inventory and deposit transfers, light bookkeeping duties
• Coordinating book launches, special projects, events, and liaising with vendors and artists
• Working with staff to produce content for webshop, blog, etc.
• Answering email correspondence from customers regarding sales questions
We are looking for someone with the following experience and skills:
• Strong people skills; must be warm and friendly, down-to-earth, willing to go above and beyond to help customers and engage positively with coworkers
• Leadership skills with ability to multi-task and prioritize a wide range of duties and work under pressure
• Visually-oriented, able to oversee merchandising and find creative display solutions
• Extremely organized and able to create order within a chaotic, busy environment
• Very strong written communication skills
• High attention to detail, and excellent work ethic
• Good with numbers, able to think critically and problem-solve
• Willing to take on both complex and basic tasks with equal attention and care
• Previous arts, retail or administrative experience preferred
• An understanding and passion for contemporary art, underground culture, independent publishing, and fashion
• At ease working with social media, posting events and information online
• Computer savvy and proficient with multiple applications, comfortable and quick learning new software.
This is a full-time position available ASAP. Hours are mostly in the daytime, however must be available to work evening events as well.
