
Ooga Booga is hiring!
We're looking for someone who can help manage the store and assist the owner. You will interact with a diverse group of contemporary artists, musicians and designers, while gaining some insight on alternative ways of working in retail and the arts.
We are looking for a well-rounded individual who is very good at multi-tasking in a fast-paced setting, has knowledge and interest in contemporary arts and culture, and excellent people skills. You will work very closely with the owner and juggle several different roles, as this is a two-person company, with an addition of interns.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Processing sales using POS system
- Develop and maintain thorough knowledge of our stock and the artists involved with the shop, able to keep track of these items and discuss them with visitors
- Able to help out at store events, overseeing event set-up and sales
- Able to supervise, communicate, and assign tasks regularly to interns
- Frequent communication with owner, assisting with daily tasks and long-term projects
- Maintain and monitor shop merchandise display, and oversee inventory management
- Answering email correspondence from customers regarding stock and mail-orders
- Filling mail-orders, preparing shipments, help prepare images and information for web-shop
We are looking for someone with the following experience and skills:
- Strong customer service skills; must be warm and friendly, down-to-earth, willing to go above and beyond to help customers
- Must have an understanding and passion for contemporary art, underground culture, independent publishing, and fashion
- Strong verbal and written communication ability
- Must be very well organized, and have good follow-up skills
- Attention to detail, resilient, good work ethic
- Leadership ability, can think critically on your feet and problem-solve
- Can learn quickly and teach skills effectively to interns
- Retail or management experience preferred
- Computer literacy: proficient in MS Word, Internet and email applications, comfortable learning new software and skills
- Additional computer skills (POS, Excel, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, etc.) and proficiency with numbers are a plus!
